    Default Storing .22 rounds loose?

Okay, I am trying to make sense of my pile of ammunition boxes, and one of the things that is confounding me is how to store my .22 LR ammo. Most of it, the vast majority in fact, is bulk pack stuff, so it is already loose. I was trying to pack the boxes into an ammo can and got to thinking, why not just open them up and pour them in? Can anyone tell me why this wouldn't be a good idea?

    Thanks.

I can't see any reason not to - the bulk-pack ammo is stored and transported that way.

You might want to keep the lot numbers separate in case there is a problem with any of it.

Good answer... Winchester had a recall last year on some of it's .22 ammo.

Well I have different lots I am sure, so I guess I will have to go shoot it all up to make sure it is all good, right?

Go ahead. Some I know just leave them in the bulk boxes as it makes counting easier to know how much you have.

I'm not sure, but there maybe could be a law somewhere that says all loose rounds have to be stored empty.

Such being the case, you're just going to have to fire off all those loose rounds just to make sure they work.

I know it's a rough job, but somebody's got to do it, and you're just the person to do it.

    Enjoy!

Talking Re: Storing .22 rounds loose?

So I bought alot of surplus stuff in different calibers, many times sold in torn paper wrappers tied off with string and spilling all over the place. So I buy ammo cans and attempt to stack it all nice and pretty and organized. 7.62x54is no problem, stacks up nicely. But as the rounds get smaller, fitting my hands in the cans and keeping my stacks from spilling gets tougher. My surplus pistol stuff is now loose bulk pack style.

I have a few small lots of ammo I no longer use becaue I sold a lot of my guns over the last few years. I keep much of it in ziplock bags of different sizes.
I can see through the bag, and know what is in it, and the bags keep moisture etc out, and are easier to store than various part-empty boxes.
Can also put notes, etc, in the bags with information on the dates or whatever of the ammo. Bags also come in different sizes.

FWIW, I gave most of this stuff away to a friend who can still shoot it.
