Default Person puts gun in bin at Allegheny county courthouse

Heard the end of a short news blip on channel 11 news I had on in the background. Just tried searching their website for it to no avail. Apparently he just got in line for the metal detector and pulls it out casually and placed it in the xray bin.
That didn't go over so well with the guards I guess. Whoops.

Isn't that how you're supposed to check your weapon at the courthouse?

No, you're supposed to wave it in the air so they can see it while you announce "I HAVE A GUN I need to check".

If those are all the salient facts, then he could walk, with decent counsel.

He didn't attempt to sneak it in. In fact, he made it known to the Deputies, on purpose. That's what you're supposed to do. That's why courthouses are legally required to have secure boxes for storage of guns, and that's why those boxes are accessed by first making the gun known to the Deputies.

Of course, if he's unlicensed, he's toast, unless he was open carrying from home.

I heard the story. It seems an individual, reportedly smelling of alcohol, showed up at the courthouse for a job interview with the county sheriff. He placed his loaded gun in the magnetometer and when the deputy saw it, he hit the panic button. 15 deputies responded. The gun owner had a LTCF and the list of charges detailed in the report did include any that are gun related . No word on whether or not he got the job.

If he doesn't get the job, I'm sure the NYPD has an opening.

His aim is probably too good to qualify. Sober or otherwise.
