LEO notification - concealed
on a traffic stop (in PA), am I required to notify the LEO that I am an LTCF holder and am carrying prior to a request from him/her?
How about walking along the street, officer stops me and questions me about...anything but the carrying, am I required to notify?
Assume no crime being committed (well, except for the traffic stop, maybe speeding or random DUI stop)

This has been discussed before, but no, there is no PA law that requires notification.

Re: LEO notification - concealed
You are not required to identify yourself as a LTCF holder or even volunteer the fact that you are carrying. You are not even required to talk to them, other than asking for a lawyer.
If you do feel like talking, if they ask you if you have any weapons this should be answered like "I am in possession of no illegal weapons."

A better response would be, "I do not have any illegal weapons."
I think it's a more clear and direct answer to the question. I'd rather answer using some form of NO in my response when asked if I have something I shouldn't have. The other one did too, but it comes late in the answer and is overshadowed by the affirmative first part of the reply.Last edited by LM4300; December 12th, 2008 at 09:12 AM.

Re: LEO notification - concealed
Just remember that you are not obligated to even answer the question. Additionally, not answering the question can NOT be used as suspicion of wrongdoing. Simply ask the officer if you are free to go in response.
Exercising your Fifth Amendment rights is arguably the best protection against being arrested, charged and convicted of a crime you
a) Would not have been convicted of if you had remained silent
b) A crime you were unaware you had committed.
c) A crime you did NOT commit but can be convicted of due to circumstances, faulty police procedure or even malicious police procedure.
IMO... NEVER talk to the police:

Hardly ever will any good come to you by talking to the police, but a lot of bad can come from it.

"Never talk to the police"..............about what? The time of day, the weather, how the Steelers are doing, etc?
Witness something and refuse to come forward with the information because you watched the video?
A woman gets beat, a man gets robbed or a child gets abducted.........??? Sorry, I'd like to help officer, but I watched a video that says I should never talk to the police. Good luck with your investigation though.
