Pet peeve: Stamped/etched warnings on firearms
Is it just me, or does it seem that more gun manufacturers are plastering "Read instruction manual before use" or other warning verbiage on their pistols, rifles and shotguns? Does it bother anyone else that these "helpful" messages are stamped/etched on a gun which already comes with an instruction manual when you purchase the firearm in the first place?
Do you guys feel that these stamped and etched messages on a firearm detract from it aesthetically? What about the value? Do you feel that the guns' value is diminished by the inclusion of these asinine warnings? As stupid as this sounds, and however illogical, I have a hard time bringing myself to purchase a gun that has anything else stamped on it other than make, model and serial number.
Am I in the minority here?

yep I hate it as well. Ruger's giant mess on the dust cover of their 1911 is one of the worst.
It's one thing I really like about some of the smaller foreign gun makers, you rarely see that sort of bullshit on any of them.

If they must put a warning label on their guns, make it a friggin sticker that can be removed. When buying a new gun the warning label is now one of the things I look for as part of the decision making process.
You may find me dead in a ditch one day. But by God, I'll be lying in a pile of brass.

It's all about lawsuits! No offense to the local barristers.

Just wait until you see this label stamped on them all:
The State of California has determined that the lead contained in the bullets fired from this gun may be dangerous to your healthRules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Re: Pet peeve: Stamped/etched warnings on firearms
Your Honor, it is not my clients fault for fatally discharging said firearm into said victim. There was no warning label on said firearm. Therefore, my client is not responsible for the obvious failure of the manufacture to provide adequate warnings; which would have prevented this tragedy.
Counselor, your client does not understand nor read English; only Spanish.
Exactly, your Honor! These warnings must be multi-lingual. Not only am I requesting that the charges be dismissed; I demand a federal class action lawsuit be filed against the manufacturer for failing to adequately describe the dangers associated with this device to other than the English speaking population. We are a "global" society.
Somewhere out there, someone is going to use this.....
