Alaska
Doesnt affect me either way...i dont think i'll ever visit...but..
I've read many times that AK does not issue carry permits....but then i find this Dept of Public Safety .
Seems they dont require them...but they do issue them...Alaskans may obtain a concealed carry permit if they want reciprocity with other states.
Effective October 1, 2007, the application fee for a new Alaska Concealed Handgun Permit will be reduced to $94.25. This reflects a reduction in the cost of conducting national criminal background checks.

AK will issue, for reciprocity sake.

Re: Alaska
Last time I was in AK I was 14 and I OC'd a Ruger Blackhawk .41 Magnum. Not sure why anyone would conceal up there unless times have changed.

Re: Alaska
Between everything I have read and from talking to people that I know that have gone up there, here's the deal as I understand it to be;
You do NOT need a CCW to carry in Alaska. You may CC or OC, you do not need a standard CCW of any kind, but you do need some sort of photo ID, and that will suffice.
As far as your age or whatever, I'm not sure. I'm sure its probably either 18 or 21. I think I read it, but I don't remember.
They do issue a CCW, however, like others have said, its for reciprocity's sake. You don't need it in the state of Alaska. So, basically, I'm just +1-ing that.

Re: Alaska
One strange thing (IMO) about AK that is seldom addressed on "the forums":
A person 21 or older may be charged with Misconduct involving Weapons in the 5th degree under AS 11.61.220 if s/he
- fails to immediately inform a peace officer that s/he is carrying a concealed handgun
- fails to allow the officer to secure the weapon or fails to secure the weapon at the direction of the peace officer, or
- carries the weapon concealed within another person's residence, unless s/he has first obtained the express permission of an adult residing there, whether or not the person has a concealed handgun permit.

Re: Alaska
I don't interpret it that way. I interpreted it as "before you enter any private property, you must first ask permission / notify the owner that you are carrying concealed."
Actually, it sounds similar to proposed legislation in VA regarding concealed carry in establishments which serve alcohol for on-site consumption.
