I think what danp is alluding to is: you will have to take it to an FFL dealer to transfer to another FFL dealer in another state for interstate transfers.

FL allows for private transfers without the legal stuff, but any time you transfer to another state FFL's must be involved.

While that is the safest, it is perfectly legal for the owner to ship the gun to an FFL in the buyer's home state. You only, legally, need the FFL on the buyer's end.
