    Default what is it called?

i am looking into some options for a couple of firearms i want to match each other...

the coating i am thinking about comes in MANY paterns. the item to be coated is placed in a tank of water. an image is placed on top of the water. the water is heated up, and then the item is lifted out of the water.

buckmaster stocks and the remington R-25 is coated in this way... but i dont know what it is called...

    any idea?!?

If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words.

I know what you are talking about, but can't remember where I saw it.

The way that this is done is called "water transfer" usually. It's done with a special coating that is layed on the water as you mentioned and the firearm is "dipped" into it. I saw someone the other day that had it done in digital camo by a particular company. Everybody seemed to think that the pattern was a bit busy, but it still was alright. I'll post up some pics in a minute when I find the link and places that do it. It is also sometimes called "hydro transfer" or "hydro dipped"

Edit: This rifle is not mine, I merely did not want to link to the particular place that it was so posted the photos. This is an AIC skin that was dipped at a place in Michigan. Each company will probably have a slightly different template, so the results will vary. I'd consider looking at some place's template before getting it done, or photos of what their digital camo looks like, etc.

There are getting to be quite a few places that do it. This is just one that I searched for and found quite a few patterns for. They do have quite a few digital camo patterns and multi-cam. Here's a link to their page, the camo's are towards the bottom of the page. http://www.hydro-dip.com/all_patterns.htm . On this page is a gallery of lots of different things they've dipped, including firearms and other products. http://www.hydrodipping.com/

P.S. due to the glossy finish, and people not knowing how durable these skins may be, many guys on the hide are recommending that you duracoat this clear, to knock off some of the shine and to make sure that the water transfer stays on the stock. Just something to consider, but at that point you're talking about a pretty expensive finish.
