Default PICS says wait 15 days?? why

i went to buy my 3rd gun tonight and the pics system said it will take 15 days to give me an answer . which is worthless cause i wont be near the gun shop again for a long time. i never had a problem on my other 2 guns and i just got one a few weeks ago.. i have no record at all except a car accident a yr ago which shoulnt matter anyway.. why would now they say i gotta wait? the place said maybe cause i have a common name but i dont buy that.

From what I've seen before on the forum...it could be your name as you said, PICS was too busy at the time your info went thru, the databases they check were running slow and they couldn't get your info up in a timely manner.

    Some possibilities

    PICS checks various databases:
    PENNDOT
    PA Mental health
    PA Criminal info system
    NCIC

its possible one of several things happened.

a person just entered the justice system with a very similar name, similar number, or such.

or the fed links were down, so they cant get a connection to check.

at this point, dont be too worried...i used to get delayed for the similar name to a criminal, AND the fact that i didn't list my full name on my DL, just First Name, MI, and last name.

sometime in 2000, the issue stopped, but i'd get delayed before that.

so hang on little tomato, it's not a problem until you get denied, and use the challenge form.

also, its not "you have to wait 15 days" its that THEY have 15 days to respond.

out of curiousity, what PA mental health databases do PICS search, and how? With HIPPAA, is it just court related mental health adjudications, or do they search the entire health care history for inpatient hospitalizations?

    just wondering.

yes, well, in my expierence, they will take ALL 15 days. just like the psp take the FULL 30 days that they are allowed to respond to a challenge form
