Shotgun with hollowpoints?
I'll e the first to admit that I'm not as up on shotgun technology as I should but this strikes me as a bit strange.
I was watching an episode of my new favorite show "Castle" and the dead guy was found to have a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with "hollowpoints." I didn't think such a thing existed for shotguns. Did I miss something? After all, we all know that TV shows never get anything wrong when it comes to guns.

If that doesn't kill a guy, nothing will.

Re: Shotgun with hollowpoints?
On a quick search I found references to 10ga, 12ga, 16ga, and 20ga HP slugs.
"The ammo makers claim a 1 inch diameter after expansion, which is not a lot when you start at about .72". The sabot hollow-points
expand even more, percentage wise, but they start out smaller. Bigger
hole = more damage. But even the solid Brennekes and Foster type
solid slugs have enough oomph to down a deer. The way to go now seems to be using a rifled tube and expanding rifle bullet type sabot rounds - 1900-2000fps shoot flat & hit hard" from the web.
If they expand to 1 inch, they will do the job.

Remington makes a copper solid sabot that has 4 leaves that expand and break off in 12 and 20. Not sure if they have it in other gauges though.

Re: Shotgun with hollowpoints?
Sabots slugs are essentially hollow points in a sabot.
They also have polymer tiped bullets just like critical defense rounds in the shot gun sabot form.
Winchester Supreme Saboted slugs are hollow points with a plastic wad in a shotgun shell.
Also Muzzle loaders use hollow point saboted pistol rounds as well. There are different weights or grains, and different calibers.
Example - I use 240gr. .44 cal. bullet in a plastic sabot with 100 gr of FFF (pistol powder - burns hotter pyrodex) 209 shotgun primers for my in-line Thompson
