Default A good lawyer to call?

I was thinking after reading through some past OC/CC threads. That maybe if one of the seasoned members were friends with, or knew a good lawyer, that they could ask him if he didn't mind to put his name and telephone number somewhere on this site. I know that a lot of times people know their rights but are afraid to express the fact because of intimidation by LEO's. There are many times a LEO asks someone to do something against their rights but it is hard to say no; i.e hand over your gun for no reason, or allow a LEO into one's house without a warrant, or answer questions about OCing when its perfectly legal. I know I would feel better not answering any questions if I had the number of a good lawyer in my wallet. If there is already one on the site somewhere that I didn't see just disregard this.(A 24hr lawyer would be nice also.)

    That's a great idea. Most normal people don't have a lawyer on-call.

It would be great to have a list of "PAFOA-Approved" lawyers who could be called upon when one of our members finds themselves in a self-defense situation.

found one on that list that serves Allegheny, Butler, Washington, and Westmoreland County. Would it be improper to just put his contact info in my wallet for a rainy day?

I would recommend you call him and set up a consultation. They are usually short, but free. He can then give you basic info and let you know what it would take to retain him. For your situation, he may only ask for a couple of hours of fees for a retainer. You then could call him whenever needed.

If you just grab his contact info and call later, you may have to wait and jump through some hoops because he doesn't know you or have any past experience with you.

    Just my two cents.

Good link gnbrotz! I didn't see anyone that practiced less than an hour away from me in luzerne county. But we are in the right direction. Maybe if no one else has any suggestions I will just start calling law firms in my area and see what they can do for me.

I noticed that there was one attorney in the greater Pittsburgh area, as well. I stuck his number in my phone just in case. Before I actually set up a consultation with the fellow, however, I was wondering if anyone knew him. His name is J. Michael McCormick. He is on the Shooter's Bar site, so even without knowing anything about him, I would imagine that it's better to have his contact information in the event of an emergency than no contact information at all. I realize most attorneys practice over a wide range of topics, so I want to make sure I'm going to choose an attorney that has a great deal of criminal defense experience, is VERY good and VERY knowledgeable in the self-defense arena. If anyone knows of any attorneys that meet that criteria in the greater Pittsburgh area, drop me a line.

Mike McCormick has been recommended to me by Kim Stolfer on more than one occasion when I was looking to put someone in touch with an attorney in that part of the state.

You can see more specific info about what areas he practices in here.

    Defense info here.

    Firearms info here.

Thanks, Greg. If he's good enough for Kim to recommend, that's enough of an endorsement for me.
