Colt 1991 ?
What can you guys tell me about the colt 1991? I have the opp to buy a used/never fired one for 600 bucks and to me it looks like a 1911. The price is in the ballpark according to gunbroker and I want some Colts in my collection but I know nothing about this gun. Thanks in advance, Brian

Inexpensive version of the 1911. Not a bad gun. Offer him $500. Colt thought if they made a cheaper version of the 1911, people would buy it. I don't think it went over. I've only seen 2 since 1991. My opinion.

I have one... love it. Shoots very well never failed me. I have had it for a few years and paid close to $600 (slightly used) back then. IMHO you can't go wrong with this pistol.

Very nice GI type of Colt! They are a great 1911, that is also a fair price for one.

Re: Colt 1991 ?
I have one. It's supposed to be a replica of the WW II GI issue sidearm, if I recall. I don't believe it's supposed to be an "inexpensive" 1911, but I'm not a 1911 guy (although I've owned 3 and still have the 1991).
Nice gun, and everyone ought to own one 1911 or equivalent.
BTW, several months ago, I had to make a choice about which 1911 I was going to sell. One was a series 80 in stainless, the other the parkerized 1991. I had a hell of a time making that decision, but being a vet, I went with the parkerized 1991 (even though the series 80 stainless was probably the better gun). Nostagia...a wonderful thing when one is getting older.
Anyway, enough rambling...go buy that 1991-A1.Last edited by RoyJackson; April 26th, 2009 at 07:27 PM.

Re: Colt 1991 ?
I own a 1991 in the Commander size, as well as a Series 80 Government. The Commander is quickly becoming my favorit. That is a very good price, btw. I don't think that there is anything "GI replica" about this pistol. It is just a good, reliable 1911 and it is a Colt. Nuff said.

Re: Colt 1991 ?
The Colt 1991A1 was a simple gun that took the original 1911A1 and added a few things.
Colt used a flat mainspring housing, added higher than GI sights ( later models had 3 dots), and used the Series 80 firing pin safety. These guns were blasted and then blued to a matte finish...or a simple bead blast to the stainless guns. They had black plastic grips with the Colt pony on them.
The slide read: COLT 1991A1 in block letters.
These guns sold from $400 to $500 NIB but are bringing $500-$900 used depending on condition and blued vs. stainless.
A few years ago Colt changed up the 1991 series and it is now known as the "New Rollmark 1991".
These new guns feature the series 80 FP safety, and 3 dot sights...but they are giving the guns a high gloss blued finish and rosewood grips.
The "New Rollmark" reads Colt 1991A1 Gvt model and is not in block letters. The slide also has the rampant colt "pony" on it.
These guns are selling for $700-$900 NIB IF YOU CAN FIND ONE. They make them in short runs, and you have to check dealer stock from time to time to order one.
If I had the chance to buy a like new 1991A1 for $600 I would pick it up. I have a GVT and Commander in my collection, but I'd add another if the price was right.
Regards,
BUCKMARK

Re: Colt 1991 ?
I should add that I added the metal arched MSP housing and a metal trigger to mine. Both were Colt take-offs and fit perfectly. I prefer the arched MSP housing and it fits my hand better.
If I didn't already own my Gov't., I wouldn't hesitate to buy the 1991 in the full size length.
