Temple Student Shot Over iPhone (w/ Video)
This is from yesterday's news. I tried search and it doesn't look like anyone else has posted this story yet.
Gunman is on the bike, victim is on the phone behind him.
Temple Student Shot, Robbed In North Philadelphia
Philadelphia Police are searching for a suspect who was caught on tape moments before shooting and robbing a Temple University student.
Investigators said it is the second time in five days that a Temple student has been shot during a robbery while living in off-campus housing.
The latest incident happened early Thursday morning at N. 13th Street and W. Girard Avenue.
A 24-year-old graduate student was captured on surveillance tape talking on his iPhone outside his apartment while the suspect rode by him on a bike and sized the victim up.
Moments later and outside of camera range, the suspect attacked the victim.
"There's a struggle, he takes the cell phone away, he perpetrates the robbery and during the course of that struggle, he shoots him one time in the stomach," Lt. Frank Vanore explained.
After being shot, the wounded victim attempted to return to his apartment, but he collapsed in the doorway. The victim was rushed to the hospital, but he is expected to fully recover.
The suspect fled on his silver bike after the shooting and remains on the loose.
This incident occurred only days after a 22-year-old undergraduate student from Temple was shot and killed during an attempted robbery in Southwest Philadelphia.
Both incidents remain under police investigation.Vortex

See, the antis are right. He did not need a gun, they have video.
Be safe (and carry gun, at least you could always go to another school).

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away
Just another example of why people need to be armed, aware, and ready to do battle.

Re: Temple Student Shot Over iPhone (w/ Video)
It may not have happened on campus, but if he was walking home from classes or studying, the only way he could have been carrying would be to have had a gun on campus previously, which DOES risk expulsion if discovered. I deal with this dilemma every day when I go to school. Even if I didn't feel the need to carry on campus, I have to drive back to my home on the edge of gangland. I can't magically make my pistol disappear while at class and reappear when I leave, so I have to decide whether I want to break the rules or drive home unarmed.

maybe they should just start shooting the vermin. but no they cant do that, it would get the liberals panties all knotted up.

Re: Temple Student Shot Over iPhone (w/ Video)
No. What I believe Scott was referring to was the misguided proposal by many towns and cities that placing video cameras all over town and constantly monitoring the movements of the citizenry will PREVENT crime rather than just chronical the crime for use at some later date.
This incident in Philly is a prime example of why this is an incorrect assumption. No information was gained from the video that enabled LE to stop the crime. No information was gained from the video that enabled LE to arrest the criminal since the video was too crappy to make a positive ID. The only information that was gained was location (due to proximity of the camera which recorded the event), the fact that the criminal was a younger male, and the fact that a bike was involved. Which, all of this information could have been gathered in the absence of the video camera and, so, negates any value to the camera's presence.
That about right, Scott?Sed ego sum homo indomitus
