Trivia - ID this projo
Just to give the thread a little 'love', in digging through my 'treasures' I found this 30 cal bullet that I thought would be of some curiosity especially for the younger reloaders.
This bullet is .308 BT but narrows down to .286 between the two bearing surfaces. Click on thiumbnail for larger pic.
Old farts and collectors might remember these - any guesses before I publish answer?IANAL

No clue on that one here? but its sort of similar in concept to the old Nosler Zippedo bullets except the nosler had reduced dia. driving bands that rode the top of the lands and the base was groove dia.

Looks like the same bullet used in the Swiss 7.5 Match with a soft point .

Re: Trivia - ID this projo
I actually did a quick google search and came up with nothing. I also asked around with some of the gun guys at drills this weekend. I haven't a clue.

That's a nice curve. Is it female?

I'd bet that if you looked carefully at the little cap on top, it says "CocaCola".

Looks like a Herter's Wasp Waist Bullet. They made these is a variety of calibers. Herter's went out of business in the late 70s early 80s. I think the purpose of the wasp waist was a much higher ballistic coefficent for long range shooting. Not sure if it worked that well.

Re: Trivia - ID this projo
FWIW Herter's also made bullet molds for cast bullets with the wasp waist.

Re: Trivia - ID this projo
GRIZ got it. It was another of those famous outside the box experiments of George Herter introduced in the 60's. How I miss that company. Most of my reloading dies are Herters as well as much of my support equipment - still going strong after more than 50 years! (I feel old just saying that).
If I ever find my Herter's catalogue that went AWOL during my move to Pa, I'll post a copy of the page. I believe that the intent of the Wasp Waist was to cut down on the barrel bearing surface as well as raise the ballistic coef. to produce higher velocities and longer range. Don't think the idea ever panned out but you gotta admit those projos sure looked odd enough to buy some to try.IANAL
