How much carry ammo do you keep?

This is more of a curious question than anything. Do you keep any spares of your carry ammo handy, and if so, about how much? I'll admit, what's in my magazines is usually close to, if not all that I have on hand. I might keep a box of WWB ammo on occasion, but normally anything more than the 31 rounds that keeps my gun and mags at full is used up for practice at the range. (My .22 is a different story - bought a few boxes of ammo for that and now I just can't seem to run out, no matter how hard I try.)

I usually buy 100 rounds at a time. Occasionally I shoot some of it, but not every trip to the range. When I get down to about 25 rounds, I order again.

I shot a little, loaded up 2 kahr mags (+1) and the XD mag (+1) and I have 5 rounds left. Let's do the math!

Kahr: 7x2=14 14+1=15

XD: 16+1=17


15+17= 32 (rounds in magazines)

32+5=37 (rounds total)

50-37=13 (rounds fired)

Roughly 100 rds of Hydra-Shok for the 9mm and .40S&W

But I'm slowly shooting it off after seeing some of the results in ballistic gelatin in person.

This question pops up on various boards from time to time. On the FUDD boards, it's never more than 1 or 2 boxes per rifle. On non-FUDD boards, the answers are a bit more vague.

As for me, enough to hold off a few zombies.

10k or so in 223 and 40.
5k or so in 7.62x39, 45acp, and 10mm
500 or so 308 and 50bmg

then i've got a box or 2 for some of the rounds i don't shoot as often.

Since I reload all my ammo I have a minimun of 500 for each caliber. I don't like running low and you can never have "too much".
