Let the rebuild begin!
So my birsthday gift showed up today.
My plan to turn my plain jane DPMS carbine in to more of proper Zombie killing tool can now commance!
Wife got me DS Arms A3 Stripped upper with M4 feedramps, and UTG Verticle grip(Hey, i know its no DD or BCM parts, but at least she remembered to order one with M4 feedramp and T-marking!)
My current list of things to get to complete my rebuild are:
Magpul CTR in DE
Magpul MOE Pistol grip in DE(or reguler A2 grip in DE. Donno who make one tho)
Free float railed handguard - Hopefuly DD Omega, or LaRue, but budget is a concern, so we will see what I'll get..
Flip up rearsight
Some optics.
Should comeout something nice in end!!Audemus jura nostra defendere

Consider the innards, too.
Some buffer, extractor, and bolt upgrades would probably go a long way.

Re: Let the rebuild begin!
I JUST did this.
With the exact same upper. The color does not match for shit. It's shinier black. The DPMS lower is flatter black. No big deal I guess.
I wanted the stuff ASAP so I ordered the missing forward assist and ejection port cover from midway. They didn't have a std f/a. So I ended up with a chrome one. It's now my mutt.
Make sure you have the receiver block and the barrel wrench, along with a 1/2" drive torque wrench before you even CONSIDER trying to take your stuff apart. And a strong vise... that is SOLIDLY mounted... to a heavy bench...
You might also consider a good moly lube for the receiver threads as well.
I broke the smaller table I had my vise attached to doing this. So my woman had to help hold the table / vice together while I cranked on it. It was being stubborn. Shit was ON there from the factory, and I had a hard time not really over cranking the receiver to get to 30lbs then the next hole. I had to back it off and try again a few times before I finally settled on being JUST around 30ft/lbs. Otherwise I would have had to crank the thing to a point where I thought I was going to take the front end of the receiver off just to get to the next hole.
So be warned, I thought it was going to be yawn inspiringly simple, but it was slightly more of a pita than I expected.

Re: Let the rebuild begin!
Well, you see, I know my skills, and I know what I can do.
Thats why as soon as all the parts are here, I'm gonna dropp it off to my gunsmith (Yeah, if you readin' this Xringshooter, I'm gonna be stopping by sometime in near future)
My upper match with my DPMS lowere fairly well, I thought. But I was looking at it in less then bright room so you may be right, and color is off. who knowz.
synergy, can u be more specific as to what sort of mods I should be looking in to?Audemus jura nostra defendere

Re: Let the rebuild begin!
Ordered some stuff today.
What I ordered
Magpul CTR Stock in DE
Magpul MOE grip in DE
Yankeehill Free float railed forearm
Accuwedges(i like non-rattleing gun)
Lancer L7's
What I'm still unsure is what to do with sighting.
My original intention was to retain front sight post, get some red dot, and get folding rear sight, like Mangonel Back-Up Rear Sight.
But I didn't realise that optic I was planning to use would sit too low, and dot would be on the right in the middle of front post. So that idea is out.
So I'm now thinking replace front gas block with folding sight, and folding rear sight.
What do u guys think?Audemus jura nostra defendere

Re: Let the rebuild begin!
IMO, front sights should be up, unless you shoot exclusively through magnified optics.
If your eyes are a little higher than the height of your rear aperture...then the dot bends up off the front sight post, too.
Irons don't get in the way of my dot, and I run both of my sights "up".
