Perfectly legal... But I must ask... Why on earth did you go to a behavioral health unit if you were not a danger to yourself or others? lol

I work in mental health, and the only reasons I've heard that were silly are the following:
    1. It's summer, and I'm homeless; the hospital is air conditioned, dry, and gives me 3 meals a day. (kind of the truth, but just for 3 hots and a cot... better than jail though(also used))
    2. I needed a vacation from my wife.
And my favorite in 5 years:
    3. My mother in law is in town visiting.

Yeah, I agree. I know a guy in the same circumstance and he was able to buy several firearms and also procure a license to carry.

Unless you were judged by others to need the commitment, and forced in under Section 302, 303 or 304, you should be fine.

I respectfully disagree. When used in the proper manner it works as intended. Unfourtinally there are more than one accounts of this being used incorrectly which really is a shame.

I signed myself into a hospital for a few days in 2005; diagnosed with severe depression. I had the same question until last month, when I actually did purchase a handgun. I did forewarn the dealer that I wasn't sure I would be cleared, and why.
