Opportunities and moving
People always say life's not fair.
Well I may have a really good opportunity for my career, which is great right? Usually, I would say yes but this one would require a move to the wonderful state of Mass. Coming from PA this will not be an easy move. Well i guess that depends on what they even offer. Hopefully the offer is so far either way that it make my decision for me.

Re: Opportunities and moving
I can't imagine anything that would pay enough for me to be willing to move to Mass....

Re: Opportunities and moving
I've asked this before of others, and I have no problem asking it again, how much money is required to give up ones rights voluntarily?
I suppose if it's money that makes you happy, then the decision is easy, if it's your rights then you have a difficult decision.
Let me expand on this, I am a single dad.
Just me and my two girls.
I have a CDL and make about $25K a year.
I could give up custody and go drive over the road and pull down $50-80K but at what cost?
I love my daughters more than anything, and no amount of money will cause me to give up what I have now.
Would I ever move to a state that treats me as a mere taxpaying subject for more money?
Hell no, but we are not talking about me, it's all about you.
Since you posted about this, it is apparent that you are having a bit of a struggle deciding.
I suggest you do some serious soul searching concerning money and how it can control ones life.
Are you happy now?
If not will moving make you so?
Good luck to you, for me, I made my mind up long ago as to where I need to be financially to be content.

Re: Opportunities and moving
Is the job opportunity in northern MA where you could live in Vt or NH and commute to MA? I don't know how feasible that would be.

.
depending where in mass the job is.
if it's boston area a large number of people that work in that area make the easy commute from new hampshire which is very similar to pa as far as gun laws and taxes are much , much lower than taxachusetts

Re: Opportunities and moving
As others have said, there are options even if you had to re-locate.
Sometimes life gets in the way, and its easy for people to say, 'I'll never move', but careers are on the line sometimes.
If Boston is the relocation, look to see if you can live in a free(er) state and make a commute. Believe it or not, New Jersey has a real screwed up law (signed by Christie!) that says, if you are hired by a NJ company that is considered state funded (or state run), then you MUST, within a year of hire, become a New Jersey Resident as primary residence. This is called the NJ First Act. Leave it to NJ to remove people's freedoms to choose in ALL areas of life.

bleh, you couldn't pay me enough to move to a commie state. If PA goes anti-freedom, I am OUTTA HERE. It will cost me too, but I care not

Re: Opportunities and moving
Thanks for chiming in just wanted to make sure I was not crazy for making it a really up hill battle to get me to move there. I do like the idea of living in NH that would work.
The job really would not be about the money. Though of course yes they would have to compensate me for upping my family and all. The job would step me up as a huge progression in my career. I would be leading a group responsible for developing animal models and establishing proof of concept of new drugs for a large biotech.
I knew that NH was not good but i did not realize how bad it was till i did a bit of digging. Most of what I currently own would be illegal. Now the NH angle is very attractive. I think VT would be to far. Wife is sort of pushing as well.
Thanks again for the reality check
