Default Quick ? about FTF transfers...

    Here's my quick question:

Is it necessary for me to provide the original Application/Record of Sale when transferring a handgun from one private owner to another? Besides my state issued ID and the gun, is there anything else I need to bring to such a transfer?

For context, a PAFOA member and I are probably going to trade handguns soon and I want the transfer to go as smoothly as possible.

    Thanks.

HANDGUNS must go through an FFL. I am 98% positive on that. Not doing so is a no no and also a Federal Crime.

I could be wrong, though. It happened once and it was terrible.

I can't answer your question about long guns, others will soon.
NEED should never enter into a discussion about RIGHTS

I think he means when he gets to the FFL will he need to show them those papers. An answer to which I do not have.

Although i'd doubt it, but if its a matter of going to your gunsafe and grabbing it why not.

Yes, we are definitely doing it by the book and having a FFL handle the transfer. I'm just asking if I have to bring a copy of the Application/Record of Sale that I got after purchasing the handgun originally to the new transaction in order for it to go legally and smoothly.

I'll throw in another 2% positvity on that making it 100%

Long guns can be sold FTF without FFL involvement.

As far as I know, you do not have to have that, but it couldn't hurt.

I'm not an FFL. I've never heard of such a requirement, and since there are multiple scenarios where you could have legally obtained the firearm without completing an SP 4-113, I can't see how it could be required.

I've traded, sold, and bought numerous guns privately or through the local FFL dealer, and all you need is your ID, the gun in question, and the right amount of money. And just in case anyone reading my first sentence is unsure of my behavior and wants to spank me publicly, all transfers have been in accordance with the law.

I believe transferring a handgun FTF without the use of a FFL is not a federal crime, and is in fact legal in many other states. It is a PA state crime, so it's still a no-no.
