Simmons 4-14x44 AETEC or 44Mag

Looking for an all around scope - deer hunting, target, etc. Would be mounted on my Rem 700 in .308

Considering Simmons scopes - keep hearing they are alot of scope for the money. The two scopes I am cosidering are the Simmons 4-14x44 AETEC or 44Mag. The AETEC is $219 .44 Mag is $160. The AETEC has side focus & I can get a mildot reticle for $10 more. I really like both features, especially the side focus.

Is the Simmons reliable enough for hunting? How does it compare to Nikon, Leopold, etc. Will the mildot be OK for hunting (I prefer it for target).

I have an AETEC and also have hunted with Simmons scopes for years and have never had any problems. I have one with the mildot reticle and I think it would be fine for hunting. If you have to take a long shot it might be useful. The only higher quality scope I've actually used is a Burris. I honesly can't tell you which one is more clear or better.
