    Default New MSAR STG-556

I'm looking to get a new MSAR STG-556, one of the current run models with the tulip FH and no forward assist (specifically before a new AWB *cough*)... i've read elsewhere about reliability issues with some of the earlier models, and to be frank a lot of the flaming seemed to come from MSAR competitors...

i know it's a relatively specific question for these boards, but do any of you have personal experience with the STG-556? anyone heard about the brand new models?

    thanks in advance!

I have no personal experience but I just read a review in "Combat Arms" and they were pretty fond of it. National Sporting Goods in Jersey Shore had one hanging on the wall when I was there putting my Arsenal AK on layaway (last saturday). I think its pretty cool that they're made up in Bradford, I'd like to get one eventually.

I have one, The only problem I have ever had with it was when I switched the bolt to a lefthanded bolt. The new bolt that I got seemed to stick and was tight. My dealer fixed that and it has worked flawless from then on. I am not sure how the new models are.

Take a look at TPD's AUG, it uses AR mags.

i've looked at them, but they cost more and are much harder to come by.... in fact their website has zero in stock for the next month or more.

Just f.y.i- Steyr is making the AUG available in the U.S. again, but it will also be pricier than the MSAR and unavailable until dec. or jan.

heard about that too... i'm specifically looking at the STG

...i MAY get an AUG at some point, love them to death... but i would only be willing to pay that kind of price for full fledge steyr, not a clone like the TPD... until them (and before the elections) i am looking at only the STG (specifically for price, feature, and availability reasons)

    thanks everyone for the responses!!!!!

I have a MSAR with optics. Black model with forward assist and the new flash hider. Zero functional problems so far except a real bear to field strip the first couple of times.

what does the new rifle do about forward assist w/o the ar-15 style button?

FA built into the charging handle via an engagement button or something?

I was in National again yesterday and that STG556 is still on the wall, $1600. I didn't get it down and look at it so I can't help you about the forward assist.
