Default Handgun Ammo Ballistics Post... Interesting!!!

I often see Questions comparing one round to another.
There is alot of Qs about what to carry.
I will start by saying that being armed LEGALLY is Paramount, and you should show caution/calm and Reserve with your responsibility with your weapon.
ANY round can stop an animal or an attacker.
There have been people who were hit with 6 rounds of 357 and lived to tell about it, And others having being hit with a pellet (NJ NEWS) have died from their wounds.
These #s are straight from Hornady Ballistic charts.
I am not listing barrel lengths with these figures, But they are all hand gun rounds.....
ALL will be listed in this fashon
    Ammo//////grains bullet////// Muzzle velocity FPS///////FT LBS ENERGY
    25 ACP --- 35 ------------------900 ------------------- 63
    32 ACP --- 60-------------------1000------------------ 133
    380 ACP --- 90-------------------1000------------------200
    9mm Luger-- 115----------------- 1155 -----------------341
    9mm Luger-- 147---------------- 975 ------------------ 310
    9x18 Makarov - 95----------------1000--------------------211
    38 special -- 158----------------800--------------------199
    357 MAG --- 158---------------1250--------------------548
    357 SIG --- 147----------------1225--------------------490
    40 S&W --- 180-----------------950--------------------361
    10 MM --- 180----------------1050-------------------- 556
    44 MAg --- 240-----------------1350------------------- 971
    45 ACP --- 230-----------------950---------------------461
    454 Casull -- 300----------------1650-------------------1813
    500 S&W --- 350----------------1900-------------------2805
So there are the most common hand gun rounds...
Just for fun, here are a couple of rifle specs....
    223 55-------------------3240 ------------------1282
    3030 Win -- 160------------------2400------------------2046
    303 Brit --- 150-----------------2685-------------------2401
    30-06 ----- 165-----------------3015-------------------3330
    45-70 Govt --- 325-----------------2050-------------------3032
Remember these specs are at muzzle, and each round has many different grain weights available, I just looked at the average one.
Cant find 762x39 or by 52R
    Anyway,,,,,,, Something to think about.
    Peter
I hope this helps clear up some questions.
None of the above are +p or +P+ loads.
This being said, I find comfort in a 38 special +p load.
The 38 special has been used for nearly 100 years by police and military effectively.

What this chart does NOT account for is the sheer mass of the bullet
if you compare the 30-06 and the 45-70, they are near alike,
But the 45-70 will drop much bigger game reliably.

The .32 ACP was used for many years in Europe by police and some military...but it wouldn't be my first choice when going into harm's way. Better than nothing, though.

I guess the .44 mag blew the shooter and the bad guy clean off the page!

    It's all about foot-pounds...

Don't know if the progressive chart will show up here, but I laughed until I cried. You're wrong as you must know on the 9's and 45's. Notwithstanding the food-pound data, head shots stop BG's all the time.

Did see a .44 Mag target this past weekend (.375 inch steel plate) and it looked like it was already in its Swiss Cheeze beauty pagent dress.

Hardly surprising that I really didn't have any fun sighting in the 2x scope for my good friend's .454.

But I still think all of you have done an awesome job at sharing with the rest of us how your dots are connected....

    Kindest regards,

Thanks for that post, I might be able to go to bed with a smile on my face tonight thinking about that
