Default My New Springfield M-1A SOCOM

I've been thinking of getting that new Ruger Mini 14 Davidson's is offering with the Tactical black metal and flash suppressor, and Circassian Walnut stock, but I wasn't sure, so I thought I would go look at a Mini 14 Tactical at Cabela's before I ordered anything. Well, you know the story. They had this really nice Springfield M-1A SOCOM they just unboxed and put on the rack. Suddenly the Mini 14 didn't look so good. So after spending over twice as much I took the SOCOM home. It's a hell of a lot more rifle than the Mini 14 could ever hope to be on it's best day! This gun points like a Sporting Clays Shotgun! This is my second M1-A and I'm really glad I went with it instead of another mouse gun. I like the AR-15, Mini 14 platform enough, but it really is nice to shoot a gun that takes a nice authoratative round. You really get a feel for this gun when you lay it next to a Mini 14. The full sized Garand action really stands out. I thought the SOCOM 16 would be a heavy, clunky rifle, but it is balanced really well and sight acquisition is very quick and natural.

It has the Trijicon illuminated front post with the Ghost Ring rear sight set up. I need to get a nice black nylon padded sling for it. I haven't decided if I'll go with a scout scope setup, or just keep it the way it is with the factory irons. Either way I'll take it out and light up a few next weekend. I got all of my crap done around the house, stuff I've been putting off, so now it's play time! Bill T.

That's f'n awesome! I love that gun. Was oggle'n it on the SA website a few weeks back when I saw a member here had one for sale. It's just on the "out-of-reach" price list for me, as my AR-15 at $850 is most I've ever spent on a weapon.

Very nice!! I've been kicking around getting one for a few months now.

The only thing I don't like is the way they etch "SOCOM 16" on the side of the gun. IMHO, it looks cheezy.

the two feet of fire that comes out the end of it will easily take care of the lighting it up part. roasting marshmellows or setting forest fires is no problem for it.
it's only metal, we can out think it....
