    Question California gun questions

I have a friend who just moved to CA. He has a .22 revolver pistol and a black powder pistol.

Under CA law, I'm assuming both of these are considered firearms (I think in some states black powder weapons are sometimes in a different class). Neither have proof of registration or ownership (he's not a gun guy, but has had these for many years as gifts/bequeathed to him, etc.

Is there any way to make these guns legal in CA? If so, what is it? I don't know anything about CA gun law. Also, what would be the process to sell them? I assume they'd go through a FFL like everywhere else, but how would they get registered first, etc? What about selling TO a dealer?

    Thanks in advance.

Have him call a lawyer in CA... I wouldn't depend on an Internet peanut gallery to keep me out of jail, and neither should he

From the sources I have, he may not be in terrible shape (like NY and NJ, for instance). Seems that despite a lot of onerous restrictions, CA does not register guns. A lawyer seems "over the top" for this. I'd stop in at a gun store when they're not busy and ask. Or visit a gun club and talk with the locals.

Depending on where he is, a carry permit might not be out of the question.
Some of the rural counties are reputed to be near shall-issue. OTOH, if he's in the Bay area, he'd have to change his name to Diane Feinstein or Nancy Peolsi.

    I'd post a question here:

Or just search around a little.
