Re: Fed up with PC...Getting an iMac
Try Linux out before you drop the cash on Apple.
I am using PCLinuxOS.
Linux for the most part is open source, and therefore free.
I went to Linux a while ago, and have never looked back.
The nice thing about it is you can use most if not all of your PC hardware (computer included) with Linux.
So do a trial with Linux on the stuff you have before you spend a couple thousand on Mac. You might be pleasantly surprised

Re: Fed up with PC...Getting an iMac
+1 on linux first.
Just try and find a distribution that works well with both your hardware and (most importantly) YOU. Most distributions can be used as a LiveCD (or DVD) that allows you to try before you install.
One of the most user friendly distros out there is Ubuntu, its a full-fledged distribution with a familiar interface if you're used to Windows, and works well with most devices with little to no setup. And, like most other distros, there is a very active web forum where you can get help.
And to top it off, all Linux distros and most software is completely 100% legally free. Not to mention sometimes superior to Windows software (open office for example.)If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin. - Samuel Adams

Re: Fed up with PC...Getting an iMac
MAC = expensive PC which doesn't do anything that a PC can't do if configured correctly.
95%+ of the PC issues that occur are due to PEBKAC (Problem exists between Keyboard and Chair). The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: Fed up with PC...Getting an iMac
If you are not having success with a PC, it's you.. don't blame the hardware. Mac is not the answer and neither is Linux. No need to rehash the same old debate.

Re: Fed up with PC...Getting an iMac
My brother, being a high end Mac user, described the difference to me like this: Macs are like Lamborghinis, you get special parts direct from the maker and if something goes wrong you take it to a place certified to fix them. PCs are like any standard car, you can buy whatever kind of parts you want from whatever brand and fix/tweak them yourself. Being a big believer in "If you want something done right, do it yourself," I stick with PCs.
The only significant difference in favor of Macs that I know of is that they are excellent video editing and media machines. I only know this from secondhand experience and hearsay, I've never really got into using Macs. I still edit video on a PC, it's just a slower process.
Hope this helps. *edit* forgot to include a language warning.

Re: Fed up with PC...Getting an iMac
Right now I am talking to you from behind a Mac. Good platform for my mother and father (in their 50's) who have issues with a complicated user interface. I still have a PC...several actually... just for the fact of the magnetic power plugs...the end of life failure on most PCs these days, I would throw in witht he mac crowd on my next laptop. I have lost my last three PC laptops to hardware failures of the motherboard's power input after about 3-4 years each. Go Mac and don't go back IMHO.
