newbie needs a 1, 2, and 3 on PA gun licensing
OK, new here but not to rifles, pistols, and machine guns. (US Army)
No Army jokes please.
Anyway, what are the first three steps to get a firearm license in Pennsylvania.
Please provide links.
I would like a hunting license, also interested in a pistol.
I do not propose to know anything about civil law on the issue.
Thanks
PS: If I had a 1943 Jap 307, but not that I do, would I need to register it?Last edited by mrluke; June 10th, 2009 at 08:31 AM.

Re: newbie needs a 1, 2, and 3 on PA gun licensing
To merely own a non-NFA firearm, there is no "license." You go to the store, they run a background check, and you walk out with it a few minutes later. Long guns can be bought without an FFL.
Things like suppressers, short barrelled rifles or shotguns require paperwork -- I'm not sure how to go about that. However -- don't quote me on this -- I think if you already owned it prior to moving to the state of PA, there's nothing you need to do. But best to get a second opinion on that.
LTCF is applied for at your sheriff's office, in the county seat.

Don't quote me either, but when I moved (back) to PA from out of state a few years ago, with a semi-auto bought in my former state, I had similar questions about registration. According to my local dealer no registration/transfer was required because the serial number is already linked to my name in the ATF's database <refraining from editorializing>. The dealer further indicated that if I wanted to purchase an insurance policy for the firearm then doing something (don't remember what, it was a few years ago) would need to be done paperwork-wise.

If you are actually within the city/county of Philadelphia, then you will apply for your license to carry a firearm (LTCF) through the Philadelphia Police Department: Philadelphia County Information.
If you are in one of the adjacent counties, then you will apply through that county’s Sheriff.
Each of those county information pages has the link to the license to carry a firearm (LTCF) application information for that county.

Read the stickies at the top of the forums and use the search function to find all the info you could ever possibly want to read. Not only will you get 1, 2, and 3, you'll find 4 through 5,000.

Re: newbie needs a 1, 2, and 3 on PA gun licensing
I don't think it is full auto.
It's a 7.7mm Arisaka Japanese, I think a type 99.
It was a sniper's rifle who was picking off GI's with it in the Philappenes during WWII.
My dad's friend shot the guy and gave it to my dad after he brought it back.
Is it illegal?
