Phila Inquirer profile story on a (gasp!) holster maker
Every Monday the Inquirer profiles a small business. This week it was a local holster maker. I had an opportunity to speak with the writer and commended her for writing a positive story about a firearms related business. Let's hope she starts a trend.

Cool story.
from the article
" One guy even made for him, at no charge, a set of presses that were far better than the assemblages of plywood and clamps Hauptman was using in the molding process to secure sheets of thermal-formed plastic known as Kydex around gun replicas."
Very nice thing to do.

Surprising that the Inky would publish such a topic but good story.
I think someone here posted about buying from PHLSTER.MikeP

Re: Phila Inquirer profile story on a (gasp!) holster maker
Thanks, I made the presses. The writer contacted me to get some perspective. She seemed pro 2A which made me comfortable speaking to her. Jon does some very nice work. Oddly enough I don't have any of his holsters because I like to make my own.
I was working on a new kydex press for myself and cruising youtube for some holster inspiration. I ran across his channel and was blown away by the amount of time and effort he put into teaching people how to do the kydex thing (currently 149 videos!). I also saw that he was using two pieces of plywood as a press. Since he was local to me I contacted him and gave him my new press. I asked him to beta test it and tell me what he would change. He liked it so much I made him another and one for myself.
There's nothing revolutionary about the press, just a convenient solution. I'm hoping other youtube viewers suggest modifications to make it even more useful.

That was a great article.
I wonder ... is Jon a member here?
Just curious,
J.

That was a great article. In addition to the new press, I liked the quote:
"Even if I generate my own competition and someone puts me out of business, I can still take credit for it," he said with an easy smile.

I asked once and if I remember correctly Jon is a member here but doesn't post much.
I'd say that last quote sums up his personality very well.
Still seems like a miracle that the mainstream media allowed a feature of a gun guy who isn't a psychopathic killer.

Wife got NRA-certed in the same class with Jon. He worked part-time at SPAG and is a good instructor. A good guy all around, glad the business is working out for him and that the stInky profiled him.
