Act 235 question
I know you need to provide your own firearm for the class.Does any one know if most security companies issue a weapon or do generally use your own as your "duty" weapon?

Re: Act 235 question
I have never had a company issue me a sidearm. The xd40 that I qualified with is the duty weapon I carry.

Re: Act 235 question
And Dont laugh at this but having re-certified 3 times,I have seen people with Hi-points to H&Ks High end,and one State Trooper Retired was on the line at low ready and forgot to put on his ear-muffs ,and shot his H&K 10 rounds, his ears were ringing ! You will see all sorts of strange things ! Good Luck.

Re: Act 235 question
It depends on the security firm. A few issue company weapons for their personell. Many however do not and those emplyees carry their own personal arms. The firms I worked for did not and I carried my own weapon.

Re: Act 235 question
As others have posted, it depends on the place. Where I work now, we are issued our sidearms and ammo. My previous employer at one point required that we provided everything, including ammo.
Most Act 235 schools that I have heard of do require you to bring your own firearm. However, I do know of one school (I can't remember its name off the top of my head) that provides the handguns for you.

Re: Act 235 question
I had a 6" Ruger .357. You are correct, I had the biggest, baddest looking weapon on the range.
Two students over was a guy shooting a Baby Glock.
Four students over was a guy who almost put a hole in his leg doing the old "keep my finger in the trigger while putting my weapon away" -- three different times!
Be careful. There is a psych test, but no IQ test to take Act 235.

Re: Act 235 question
Back when I was a Florida G licensed guard(working in FL) - it depended on the agency you were working for. For the most part I had to provide my own gun, but others required you to carry theirs.
