Default Coming up on 50 years

Okay, so I am old and stricken in years, as the King James version puts it. This fall I will celebrate my 50th year on this planet, assuming I am not hit by a truck or shot by someone who shoots OC carriers first. I am posting about this because Mrs. Plinker mentioned the other night that she would like to do something special for my 50th birthday party. Birthdays for adults in our family usually consist of "Happy Birthday" on that particular day, so special leaves a lot of room.

I asked her how special she wanted to get.

"Not real special", she replied. I saw the warning signs immediately. I had a vision of 50 plywood cows in the yard on the morning of the day.

    "How about a .50 BMG?"

    "No."

    "What about a .500 S&W?"

    "No."

"Maybe a Desert Eagle .50 AE?"

    NO!

I have a little time yet. I'm going to have to start wearing her down. If anyone has any suggestions that have 50 in it somewhere, I would be interested to hear them. I don't know that she will, but I will.

She just read this over my shoulder before I hit the post button. Her suggestion?

"How about a nice box of 50 .22 rounds?"

    I'm doomed!

Id say a 45 and 5 change (you have to start counting backwards in 5s when you hit 50 ... I did it)

That's a possibility. I just noticed that my post above was number 666. No wonder she gave me the devil about it!

I turned 50 a couple of months ago. I bought a Mini-14. So, my advice? Don't get tied to the 50 figure...get what makes you most happy and makes you feel like you're 20!

Have a great birthday, gun brother. 50 is just a number...

How about a eight hundred and fifty dollar tread mill to kept you young.

Don't let that 50 number bother you. I passed that 10 years ago and I am more active now then - then.

50 minutes in a gun store to complete your purchase!

    50 $20 bills (or at least 50 $10 bills)

    .38 + .22 - (you'll take the garbage out "10" times without complaining) = 50
    Toujours prêt

You're 6 years ahead of me, and have a much brighter forecast.

The first time I had dinner with my wife, then just a new friend with the perspective of a recent college graduate, she asked me what it was like to be so old (41). I told her it was OK, and that I didn't need a wheelchair yet, and could still see to read. In her youthful naive honesty she promised me that when I was too old to walk, or see to read, that she would push me out on the porch in a wheelchair and sit me in the sun to read to me. She figured I would be about 50 by then.

I told her I was not interested in being a frail old man, and would prolly arrange a constructive resolution. She offered to close the curtains for me, since by the time I decided I prolly wouldn't be able to handle a gun. I asked her how she would do it? "with a fork and a knife", came her answer, a little too readily.

We were in the midst of a steak dinner, so I should forgive I suppose, but to this day, her answer remains the same. When she gives it I usually remind her what happens to young, feisty chinese concubines when the emperor dies. They are invariably buried with him.

    I'm halfway to 108 myself.

My 50th was just another day. I'm thinking that 60 will be a bit of a downer, psychologically. Something about 60 . . .
