Why is every new pistol striker fired?
To each their own, but every time a company puts a new gun on the market, it is always a striker fired gun.
Ruger and S&W just put out micro pistols. Both striker fired.
I wouldn't even mind seeing a DAO pistol at this point just to break up the monotony.
I've tried striker fired pistols. They aren't for me. Some are better than others. None give me the warm and fuzzy safety feelings of a hammer i can see and feel nor do they have a trigger pull i prefer.
Edit - and by new, I don't mean repackaged old pistols like a Beretta m9a3, cz 75 thing, or 1911. I mean, actually new.

Re: Why is every new pistol striker fired?
I just picked up a new S&W .22 Compact. It looks like a striker but it has an internal hammer.
I prefer striker for dry fire drills. Some older hammer fire can damage the fire pin. So who knows maybe striker is the trend these days. FYI S&W .22 compact is not recommended for dry fire drills because of the hammer. I do like how it shoots. Can*t afford to shoot bigger calibers at this time.ΑΣΦ

I bought an HK striker fired, didn't like it, went back to my Beretta. Wish there was a new SA/DA hammer pistol out there.

Re: Why is every new pistol striker fired?
Striker fired guns are cheap and simple. People don't want to learn how to shoot a DA/SA or DAO gun, or deal with the safety on a SAO gun. Striker fired guns can have smaller grips due to not needing a hammer strut and spring. They tend to be more sealed from ingress. Why make a gun that most people don't want to buy?
Personally I'll stick with my DA/SA HK USPs. Not even the P7 tempts me from it.

Re: Why is every new pistol striker fired?
IMO the world doesn't need any more plastic striker fired pistols. There are already too many!
After at least decade or two of "nothing new I want buy" I was at the range and saw a guy with a Sig 938. Started talking an he let me run a mag thru it and being a single action guy it was a eureka moment. So then can make new all metal single action pistols in the 21st century! Long story short it I quickly got one and it is my main carry piece. They are not exactly cheap but from what I can tell they are selling a lot of them. I know it is basically just a scaled down 1911 but they did enough development so it is not just a compact copy and it runs 100%.
There is a huge market out there for non striker pistols........so the firearms companies need to put their engineers to work and come out with more pistols that you don't just yawn at.

Re: Why is every new pistol striker fired?
It appears hammer fire handguns are on their way out. In the 90s manufacturers tried to use hammer fired guns to compete with striker fired with the infamous double action only. I think H&K still makes their LEM versions but for the most part gun shops couldn't give those away in a buying panic therefore most manufactures discontinued making them. Then in the late 90s Walther came out with the striker fired decocker known as the P99. It could be decocked into a double action mode via button on top of slide. S&W made a copy and so did magnum research however the concept was never popular and they all stop making them. I carry a P99 compact.
