7.62x54R pistol.... possible?
Realistically, in a break action single shot, is it feasible, or are we talking wrist breaker here?
Just had me thinking a bit when I was looking at a contender the other day.

Re: 7.62x54R pistol.... possible?
i think it would be possible but i would have to ask why would you want to? doesn't thompson make single shots in 308 & 30.06? magnum research makes or made a BFR revolver in 45/70 and 450 marlin both which have the potential for considerable recoil. i don't know the 7.62x54 compares to the 450 marlin or 45/70 but i can't imagine it would be a big difference.

Re: 7.62x54R pistol.... possible?
I have seen but not fired a 7.62x54R break-open pistol made by a now deceased gunsmith from Blandburg, PA. It was made as a High School project!!! He also made a 38 caliber wildcat, straight wall, rimmed case break-open. The 7.62 used a M-N barrel section and chamber. Both were fully engraved, even the screw heads, very professional.

I found both triggers to be terrible to me so the triggers are on a scale to me.. The Glock was a crisper suck and the XD was a more mushy suck. They are in the same family, SR9 (heavy suck), Glock (crisp heavy suck), XD( lighter mushy suck), M&P(heavy mushy suck).

Re: 7.62x54R pistol.... possible?
Why? Why not? Stuff is cheap and shoots well, I got a bunch of it, and wouldn't mind a fantastically large and insane pistol for S&G's. And maybe squirrel hunting.. or something like that.
Now how does one even calculate the thickness of steel for a receiver wall against a certain pressure? And is there any way to repurpose a rifle to a pistol? Or is it an SBR we are looking at?Last edited by Azzy; December 4th, 2009 at 10:09 PM.

Absolutely. The T/C Encore pistol has barrels available in both .308 Win and .30-06, as mentioned above. The Russian cartridge is in the same class.
Call SSK Industries or Bullberry Barrel Works; ask them to make a barrel for you.
I own an Encore barrel in .308; recoil is brisk with bullets heavier than 130 grains.
