Taking some european co-workers shooting.

When some of my European co-workers learned that I am a firearms "enthusiast", they expressed an interest in doing a little shooting while they have the opportunity here in America, so I'm taking a few of them out for an afternoon of shooting soon.

Obviously they are all first-time shooters, so I'm thinking about introducing some reactive targets to make their first (and quite possibly only) experience with firearms as exciting and fun as possible. I am aware of Tannerite, but can't use it in the area that I'll be shooting. Vegetables and Clay targets come to mind as well, but veggies seem messy and I want to save clays for the skeet range.

I'm thinking about getting a few 6-packs of soda, and thoroughly shaking up each can before shooting it. Anyone ever done that before? How well does it work?

Any other suggestions for simple reactive targets?

for close range (.22 / air rifles) paintballs work good to show hits (if the paintball is gone you hit it

for longer ranges or bigger rounds you can't beat dirt cheap soda or cans filled with water. they explode nicely, same goes with all plastic jugs, soda bottles, dish detergent... etc. Most grocery stores have their cheap versions of soda available by the 12 pack or the 24 pack, normally less then 3 bucks each


just a suggestion as well... prepare them for shooting with either .22 or .223 (or other small caliber rounds). If you let them start out with a high caliber they may fire once and give up as they don't like the recoil

Veggies are messy, but are biodegradable.

Hell, you could figure you were feeding the local wildlife after you left.

Not so with cans etc.

Even a decent clean up is going to miss pieces of metal.

Get a sack of old potatoes and some day old fruits/veggies and have fun!

Europeans aren't big on guns, except for the people that live in the country and go hunting. You have to remember that the vast population of the european population lives in urban centers (towns and cities) though. Just a completely different culture!

There's a bunch of europeans, Canadians, and Australians at one forum I go to, and most of them are anti gun and you can't even debate with them. Some even go as far as to call American gun owners rednecks and other such terms. I replied to some of them that they are just jealous LOL

I had some friends come over from London last year and I took them shooting. They loved it, the shot the Glock 30 and the Walther P99 in .40sw.

One thing I found that where a lot of fun to shoot have be cheap cans of latex based spray paint. Yellow is a lot of fun!!!!
