    Default Unregistered gun and CC

Short version,,,,,,,, Father in law passed away 22 years ago. He had a Beretta he carried. The gun has been in the house ever since. I now have a permit. I have recently bought two new 1911 .45's. I have no holster for them yet and want to carry the 1934 Beretta.

Tomorrow I have to go into iladelphia and want to carry, knowing the area I'm going into is not the shiniest. What problems might I expect from this should the situation turn ugly????? What is my responsibility for this old/historic/unregistered weapon?

There is no registration of firearms in PA. Please, only use that word in reference to NFA devices and actual registration used in other states.

A gift from father to son on a handgun is perfectly fine.
Not all handguns are in the sales database and don't need to be in order to carry them with a LTCF.

    Wow, those guys are quick.

The responsibility for this firearm is the same for any firearm and its user. Be sure it is mechanically sound, you have extensive practice with it, it is without a doubt second nature to you to use, unload, load, clear and make safe in a stressful environment.

As for the area your going and what to expect? I suspect your day will go without incident. I doubt you even really need to carry a firearm and based on the information so far provided, I would recommned not carrying until you are more versed in using it.

In my understanding from questions asked here previously there is no problem with this situation.

    Here is why:

#1 In PA you can give a handgun to your children or grand children w/o a transfer of any kind. This was your wife's fathers gun so as far as anyone else is concerned he gave it to her as a gift making it her pistol.

#2 In PA there is no law that states you can not carry a firearm owned by your spouse.

That is pretty much how I understand the situation. My opinion was formed with the facts given. If anyone else would like to contribute go ahead.

PS- welcome to the forum neighbor!

Actually, you can carry a firearm owned by anyone. If you are licensed, anyone can "lend" you a firearm. If you're not licensed, they break the law by lending it to you, but you could still legally carry the firearm openly.

Thanks you all.... so quick. Thank you for the welcome Fed (I'm over by Linville). Yes, I have some experience with the weapon and have had it cleaned and then I stripped it myself after the FFL bent the hammer. Straitened it up and all is fine now (got another hammer on order). It shoots well.

I guess the only hitch in my gitalong is that the MIL is still here, living in my home. She's 89, and loosing it. So, I presume (bad word when talking to a lawyer) is that she could let me use it also......????

The enumerated exceptions for certain family members do not apply to in-laws.

Spouse, parent, child, grandparent, grandchild. Period.
