5.56 ammo
Hello,
I am new and not sure if I'm doing this right? Is Lake City 5.56 SS109 good ammo? The Ammo Man has it for almost half the price as Cheaper than dirt, 2,000 rds/$900. Is this worth it. Also How come there are so many different types of 5.56/.223 that say they are the ones being currently used by the U.S. wouldn't they want to use one kind? My brother is in the Marines and he says they use the Green Tip, which I believe are the ss109. Anyhow, I want a lot of ammo good price, reliable, and mil-spec for using with my ACOG.
Thanks

Welcome. First, there are many learned ppl on this forum who have a ton of experience and are helpful. For AR-15 specific questions, you can also try AR-15.com for help. Join up and do alot of searches before doing straight-up question threads, it'll be quicker.
Green-tip ammo is steel penetrator ammo. Not really needed for messin' around at the range, and waste of money, IMO. For plinking, I recommend some PriviPartisan 55 gr FMJ, it'll be cheaper.

Re: 5.56 ammo
Welcome to the forums!
LC is excellent ammo. But $900 for 2000 seems kind of steep. I would do some more searching and change brands.
It really depends on what expectations you want to meet and what your application is.I don't have a catchy phrase to put here!

Re: 5.56 ammo
I use Wolf brand...Paying 125.00 for 500 rnds... I got a case of FMJ and SP for the same price, but I can't seem to get anymore SP all they have right now is the FMJ. I've only had the DPMS for a few months now and only put about 400 rnds through her and I haven't had any issues with the Wolf brand.

Re: 5.56 ammo
The Range I go to wont allow Wolf Ammo. At least that's what the range officer told me.
