    Default Shot out barrel??

My pet 7mm reminton magnum in a ruger 77 has been shooting groups the size of a soup bowl at 100 yards used the same loads every year and over the past 2 years it has gotten worse. does it sound like a shot out barrel? If so it might become a 35 rem mag. or back into a 7mm just with a heavy weight bbl. It is cleaned after every trip so its not dirty.

    Any thoughts????
PS its well over the 2k mark fired.

The barrel might be throated. If you load hot they can start to go as early as 1000-1500 rounds. I'd say 2000 is starting to push it.

Check the crown for dings and the fired brass necks for being out of round. Sometimes you can get a lot of copper build up in the throat. Check that area well.

How's the scope? Any shifting? Did you retighten the action screws and scope bases/mounts?

I throw in with the "give it a thorough cleaning" and "borrow a friends' scope, make sure it is mounted securely, and try it again."

A 7 mag is never easy on barrels.

Try a couple of different loads. I don't know why, but I've had a rifle change it's preference on me. It worked fine with a particular load for a while then it just didn't seem to like it any more. Granted, there could have been any number of reasons that it changed and I didn't approach it too scientifically, but switching to a different load seemed to make it start behaving again.

If it is well past the 2K mark, there is a good chance, the throat is done. had a 7mm, and MAN, while those 140 grain SMKs did well out to 600, the rifle was a heater for sure.

Try a Outers Fowl Out. I have a .220 Swift that I was just sure I eroded the throat. It looked bad. The performance all at once went away. I cleaned and even used the JB bore paste. Using the Fowl Out it pulled a bullet worth of copper out of the barrel its back to ½ groups again. It took 3 cycles to get all the fowling out.
