Default Gun Owners Win the Opening Battle on ObamaCare!

    http://gunowners.org/a102309.htm

    This e-mail came through from the GOA today to my inbox;

Gun Owners Win the Opening Battle on ObamaCare!

    Friday, October 23, 2009

    Congratulations!

You have stymied the shady tactics used by Barack Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi to try to pass the ObamaCare bill and -- in the opening salvo of the battle -- you blew them out of the water.

Gun Owners won a huge vote Wednesday in the Senate.

As you remember, the ObamaCare bill would dump your gun-related health data into a federal database. It would also put your (government mandated) insurance at risk if you keep a loaded gun for self-defense.

But there was a problem: The anti-gun health bills cost too much, and Obama had promised to pass a bill which would not raise the deficit by “one penny.”

So what Obama, Reid, and Pelosi did was to try to pass a separate bill (S. 1776) which would fund the anti-gun ObamaCare bill by raising the deficit another $247 billion dollars.

But, they would argue, because S. 1776 was a “separate bill,” the ObamaCare bill itself would not raise the deficit.

In a Senate not known for morality, this rose to a level of sleaze and corruption that embarrassed many Democrats, in addition to all Republicans.

With gun owners responding vigorously to our alerts on this issue, the motion to invoke “cloture” (or shut off debate) on the bill failed by a 47-53 vote -- 13 votes short of the 60 votes the anti-gun socialists needed.

The victory on S. 1776 means that it will be much harder for Obama, Reid and Pelosi to pick up the somewhat fiscally-minded Blue Dog Democrats they so desperately need to get their anti-gun ObamaCare legislation passed.

So congratulations! It is true that this is only the first battle... but, if we continue battering Congress as we have, it will be the first of many victories.

But in the meantime, pat yourself on the back for a job well done... and have a great weekend!

No you must be wrong, we were promised change. And a little piece of swamp land.

They'll still sneak it in at 3:00AM behind closed doors tucked safely away between 400 pages of BS.

The fact that that has become common practice, along with completely unrelated amendments to other bills, shows me that our ability to appropriately oversee the actions of our government are gone.

The fact that both sides use these tactics is further proof that nothing will be done to stop it either.

If it doesn't get into the health care bill, it'll go into the climate bill. Either way, we haven't won anything. This is just another example of congress not wanting to do something unpopular in plain sight.

You're forgetting one little detail. The American people are paying closer attention to everything Congress and Barry O try to do than any other time I can think of. They have pissed off the formerly silent majority in this country and it would be political suicide to try and push anything like that through.

Is there actually any evidence to substantiate the claims that are being made here?

It is nearly certain that coverage prescribed by the administration will, to control costs, exclude coverage for what it regards as excessively dangerous activities. And, given Sebelius’ well-established antipathy to the Second Amendment -- she vetoed concealed carry legislation as governor of Kansas -- we presume she will define these dangerous activities to include hunting and self-defense using a firearm. It is even possible that the Obama-prescribed policy could preclude reimbursement of any kind in a household which keeps a loaded firearm for self-defense.
"Nearly certain" "We presume" "It is even possible"

That's a whole lot of weasel words there.
"There are four boxes to use in the defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, ammo. Use in that order."
