Rem oil wipes?
I was given about 25 free rem oil wipes today, and it has me curious. Can these be used as a substitute for awhile instead of using regular oil to oil up my pistol. Do all the places its needed to be done with it?
Can I also clean the barrel with these things? Just let it dry out then I guess.

Rem oil is a decent light lube for keeping rust off the outside, but it's pretty poor at protecting moving parts.
I wouldn't substitute it for a good oil.

Re: Rem oil wipes?
Alright, fair enough.
I was guessing if I still would use oil I'd use the wipes to get the inside of the slide and rub whatever is there out. Since I could get more stuff cleaned in the slide then with a Q-tip.
I could use those wipes inside the barrel right? I'd just let it dry out in the air, I don't think that would hurt anything.

Yeah, it won't hurt anything, inside or out and you can use it to clean, but it's just not the best to prevent wear.

Hoppes #9 is a solvent.
Some popular lubes are:
Weapon Shield
FP-10
Break-Free CLP

Re: Rem oil wipes?
I know there is a hoppes that is a solvent, walmart has a bottle for $5 that says it oils and protects then another bottle that says its a solvent.
Break Free CLP i can only find in a spray, which I dont want.
EDIT: I looked at hoppes website, the ones walmart has is the Hoppes #9 solvent and Hoppes #9 Lubricating Oil, would that protect it as well?Last edited by The Unknown 1087; April 26th, 2009 at 11:11 PM.

Re: Rem oil wipes?
I carry them in my bag when I go to Hunting Camp. They are nice to use in the event of a storm while I am hunting. Much more than that, well... I'm not sure I would trust that it would provide what I want in a gun oil. I have heard good things about Weapon Sheild, but have not used it. I current use FP-10. It works well but is stinky. Good luck...
