Now Four Americans in Turks & Caicos Facing 12 Yrs in Jail for Ammo
Recall there's already a thread about this somewhere but damned if I could find it using relevant key words.
In any case, stay the fuck out of Turks & Caicos. Surely, this petty legal jeopardy shit can't be good for tourism. Percentage-wise, not many travelers may be at-risk gun owners potentially caught unawares with errant ammo rolling around in their luggage, but the idea that as a tourist traveling there, you could get jammed up and face serious jail time for some other minor, honest mistake certainly must send a chill when deciding whether to chill in TCI some sun & fun versus somewhere else. This place is the New Jersey of the West Indies....
4 Americans charged in Turks and Caicos, accused of bringing live ammo to the islands
Four Americans are charged with possession of ammunition offenses in the tropical Atlantic getaway of Turks and Caicos, according to a post from the Turks and Caicos Islands Government.
Carrying firearms in Turks and Caicos is prohibited, according to the TCI Government. Bringing firearms or ammunition, including stray rounds, into the British Overseas Territory without prior permission from police is "strictly forbidden."
Individuals who violate the law face a minimum 12 years in prison, according to an April advisory from the US Embassy in the Bahamas. A post on X from the island government said judges do have discretion to lower the minimum when there are "exceptional circumstances."
According to the post from the Turks and Caicos government, the four Americans are: Michael Lee Evans, 72; Bryan Hagerich (no age listed); Tyler Scott Wenrich, 31; and Ryan Tyler Watson, 40. Full text here...

The State Department could remedy this situation by anouncing a ban for US citizens for going to the Turks & Caicos.

I recall the first guy had a loose cartridge or two in his suitcase in the other thread. This sounds like a peculiar trend at the moment.
