    Question Thoughts on Exploding Targets.

I have seen these at gun shows and in some of my magazines that I get and they look like they could be fun for target shooting. My guess is that the public shooting ranges would frown upon these. I would like to hear what others here have to say. Thanks!!

Are you talking about Tannerite? If so, there are few places you can shoot it. Most "organized" ranges will not allow its use.

It is fun as hell to shoot though. I will get some, I will just have to save it for Burma Rd.

If you're talking about Tannerite, I looked into a few months ago. I really like the idea, just not the price. From what I saw (Youtube) and read online, it seems like 1lb of tannerite will destroy your typical washer, dryer, microwave, etc. and 10 lbs will do in a compact car (There is/was a Youtube video of a Geo Metro w/10lbs of Tannerite being stripped down to its axels and engine...worth a good chuckle). Like I said though, it's pricey. I think it was $7-12lb depending on how much you buy. As for the ranges, I seriously doubt that any but the most private range would let you use it. I couldn't personally justify the cost, given my college tuition, but if I had the extra money I'd buy a case. Just be careful if you buy some, one video showed shrapnel flying over 150 yards from the target....

IIRC, you can buy exploding targets that are made from compressed talc, etc and these are fun to shoot also. I see if I can remember where I saw them. I know they are good for helping hold a young shooters attention because I know they get bored shooting at paper all the time. That is also why self resetting or spinning metallic targets are good to have around.

Tannerite is cheap, you can get 20 1/2 lbm targets for $89. You don't have to shoot them all at once. And you don't have to shoot 10 lbm at once, that was not the intended purpose of it. I've never had any, but I saw it used on two occasions.

Good to know. It had been more expensive when/where I saw it. Not as bad as I thought then, but probably still outside my budget as a college student. Thanx though.

Filled, frozen water bottles are fun to shoot and pretty cheap! Just make sure you clean up after yourself.

Tannerite is FUN. If you put a pound of it in a pumpkin and manage to hit it (might take few tries because you can't actually SEE the bottle with the tannerite in it), you'll end up with pumpkin pulp spread out in a fifty foot radius. Lots of fun.
