9x19 OK
The 9mm 124gr + p hollow point is usually accepted as a better stopper than a .45acp 230gr fmj and that used to be considered very powerful for a pistol. Also the Gold Dot 124gr +p has good penetration and good expansion.
If you have a 9mm that you shoot well, feels good in your hand and points well stick with it, no handgun is a powerhouse any way and in real life if an opponent won't fall to the modern 9mm hp's he won't fall to a .40 either.

Re: 9x19 OK
What about Federal 9mm Hi-Shock 115gr +p+ rounds? Or any +p+ rounds for that matter? Are they really necessary? You make an excellent point about 9mm v. .40s&w.
9mm! Because 2 in the chest and 1 in the "computer" and you're day is still gonna get f**ked up!Check my feedback: https://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=42671

Re: 9x19 OK
Depends on what you believe in the world of terminal ballistics.
Essentially, you can believe that handgun bullets drill holes and nothing more (a la Fackler), or you can believe that "energy" in some way matters (as in Marshall & Sanow, Courtney, et al).
I personally find the "energy" camp unpersuasive. To me, all that's provable about handgun rounds is penetration and expansion. From that, we find there's no real reason for +P anymore, much less +P+. All that dates back to the early days of hollowpoints where you needed a lot of velocity to get the HP to open. HP design is light years ahead of where it was 15 - 20 years ago. The HP will open at the velocity it was designed for. Battering yourself and the gun with extra recoil just to add another 150fps is not needed.
Just buy a modern, premium design in 124 gr or 147gr and you'll be fine.

Well said! I agree on all points. I was just trying to get some debate going on this. Any takers?
Caveat: I DO have 124 gr +P Golden saber hollowpoints in my 9 for daily carry for 2 reasons: They have outstanding terminal ballistics AND....they were on saleCheck my feedback: https://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=42671

I have Speer GoldDot 9mm Luger +P 124gr GDHP.
Why? I picked them up at the York gun show (box 50, $20.00)
I love a good sale.

When we shot balistics gel a few group shoots ago the Federal HST's and Cor=Bon ammo did really well. They were the only two rounds that expanded fully and they were NASTY looking.

My M&P has 17 rounds of Hornady TAP 124g 9mm at my finger tips, and I feel pretty comfortable with that.

Re: 9x19 OK
They were nasty looking! When I get home from work, I will try to post a pick of my 3 shots from that day... a Hornaday TAP 9mm, Federal Hydrashock 9mm, and a Corbon DPX 9mm... you will see the difference between the corbon and the others... truly nasty! I am trying to buy some corbon DPX ammo ASAP!
