Carry on Federal Property
Does the restriction of carrying on Federal property include the Post Office or does federal property mean something different.

Re: Carry on Federal Property
Yes, Post Offices are the ones that you will hear mentioned the most, cause you're most likely to enter one of them.

Re: Carry on Federal Property
Does that include the parking lot of the PO. Can we lock the gun in the car or do we need to leave it home to go get stamps.

just do not violate the 11th commandment:
Thou shall not get caught
leave it in the car locked up if you feel that concerned.

Re: Carry on Federal Property
The sign posted at the post office and other federal buildings cites 18 U.S.C. 930(a) as its authority, which reads, in part, as follows:
18 U.S.C. § 930. Possession of firearms and dangerous weapons in Federal facilities
(a) Except as provided in subsection (d), whoever knowingly possesses or causes to be present a firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility (other than a Federal court facility), or attempts to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.
Don't know of too many post office parking lots that are contained in the facility.
Leave it in the car, or carry it and don't let anyone see it (been there, done that).
The cited law does have an exception for other lawful purposes, but don't expect any postal employees to tell you what that means.

This was discussed before, someone provided a reasonable argument why it was OK and cited the law....PA Patriot? I can't remember.

New people asking questions like you did when you were new. Bear with them. Answer the questions. And don't sound condescending. They are new. Help them out. Or just go away and don't visit the thread. Then you won't have to beat a dead horse. Those that care will take the time to try and help them.

Re: Carry on Federal Property
i think the wording of the relevant section of federal law/code was changed.
there used to be an analysis posted at...
http://www.thegunzone.com/rkba/rtc-usps.html
...that outlined why it was (or at least appeared to be) legal.
however, the author of that analysis has removed it and has a message saying the law has changed, and he is reviewing it.
i used to be one who argued that it was legal to carry in a post office, but i think that is no longer the case. the changes to the wording of USPS regulations seems to make it clear that it is now illegal to carry in a post office.
