I also posted on my blog about an experience we had with my wife's LCP.

Re: Ruger LCP recall...
Given the recent brou-ha-ha over that 1+ thread (carrying one in the chamber on a semi-auto), I submit the following from Ruger for your listening and dancing pleasure:
We want to remind gun users that, for maximum safety when carrying any pistol with a loaded magazine in place, the chamber should be empty, and the slide should be closed. Any gun may fire if dropped or struck.

Step 3 - We will install the new hammer mechanism, plus some other functional upgrades that we added since the LCP’s introduction, and return your LCP to you, all FREE of charge. When we do, we also will send you a FREE magazine with the new finger grip extension as a “thank you” for your patience and cooperation. We will make every effort to return your pistol within one week of receipt.

Re: Ruger LCP recall...
Sure, please do tell us?
I mean, did you read up on the Ruger SR-9 recall? They recalled the SR-9 because of a risk that was extremely unlikely, very very difficult to reproduce...but posed an ever so small potentiality.
Where as numerous modern firearms out there are actually less drop-safe than the "unmodified" SR-9.
So no, I don't really understand your concern. Ruger, I believe, has done the opposite of what Ford Motor Company does. Ruger has decided to be pro-active on recalls, probably so as to provide a strong legal shield. Even if something ever a design failure or other event resulted in a lawsuit against Ruger, they have a very very strong case in court as being very pro-active and very safety minded. The result, even in the event that they lose a case, the result will be mitigated because it will be very hard to argue that they were negligent.
"We have determined that some Ruger SR9 pistols manufactured between October 2007 and April 2008 can, under certain conditions, fire if dropped with their manual safeties in the "off" or "fire" position. The pistols will not fire if the manual safety is in the "on" or "safe" position."
Wait, the issue was that the SR-9 might fire when dropped with the safety in "fire" mode. Heck, I believe that is standard with a number of firearms.
Recalls aren't bad, "a failure to recall" - now that would be bad.N.U.G.U.N. "New User of GUNs Blog"
