The scene after retired NYPD officer Cecil Ramsay shot himself in his driveway in West Babylon, L.I., after firing at his wife and her friend. He accused them of being lovers.
A retired NYPD officer flew into a jealous rage Saturday morning in Long Island, opening fire on his wife and her friend - both city cops - before killing himself, Suffolk County police said.
Cecil Ramsay, 51, confronted his wife Dady Belfort and her pal Edwin Chittick inside the couple's West Babylon home, accusing the pair of being more than just friends.
"Ramsay accused the individual of seeing his wife," said Suffolk Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick, referring to Chittick. "But our understanding is that is not the case. They are just acquaintances."
Offended, Chittick bolted from the house.
"I'm not here to have an argument with you," Chittick said, according to police. "I'm leaving!"
Chittick and Belfort hopped into her Mercedes just before 10 a.m., but seething Ramsay wasn't done with them. He pumped three shots into the vehicle, striking Chittick in the hand.
Police said Ramsay's wife and the wounded cop peeled out and raced to a hospital. That's when a dejected Ramsay pointed the gun to his head and squeezed off a shot, witnesses told police.
The gunplay stunned residents in the normally peaceful Long Island neighborhood.
"Nothing like this ever happens," said Chalese Charlton, 17. "All I can say is, 'Wow!'"
Chittick was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffolk. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Belfort, a 46-year-old detective in Brooklyn's 69th Precinct, was not hurt.
Ramsay, who had a heart condition and was waiting for a transplant, died instantly. His body lay in the driveway for hours while investigators pieced together the tragedy.
I am so glad they are around to protect us.

I will go one better, a current Phila. Police Officer shot a fellow I know for dating the LEOs ex wife. Drove all the way from Phila. to Williamsport, kicked in the door to her apt. and shot him using his issued Glock. Can't make this stuff up.
Be safe (and remember, .gov guns are good).

Oh but don't you guys know, it's not human nature that causes people to kill....It's the evil influence of firearms! After all, if the cop didn't have a gun, then he wouldn't have hurt anybody. In fact, if no one could legally own guns, then their evil influence would be quarantined, and everybody could live a peaceful, perfect life in a socialist utopia (insert flowers, feel good pictures, and the Omessiah's face).....
What's scary, is that there are people out there that believe in this crap.Government is not reason, it is not eloquence - it is force! Like fire it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action. - George Washington
