Who knew that M855 was an "environmentally conscious" round, because it has a green tip? Fuck, we should have been using that in our arguments last month.
So basically they want free float rails and piston uppers. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

He said M855A1. I think the round has very interesting performance.
Most of that article is contradictory nonsense and the rest is just opinions solicited from people rather than any design flaw consensus of the Army or industry. It might as well be an "AK vs. AR, which is better?" article.Last edited by ungawa; April 27th, 2015 at 06:38 AM.

Meh. The Germans may be dumping the flawed HK G36 for stock M4's until they can find a domestically made replacement. They work, period.

The funny thing is I've asked several combat veterans both in person and on forums like this their opinion of the M4. I've yet to find one who had a significant problem with it from a functional standpoint in combat conditions.
I have heard a few complain of lack of range and lack of penetration at longer distances and even then, most admitted most soldiers lacked the skill/training to effectively engage targets at extended distances. Especially under the stress of combat. Even so, it seems the platform is fine. Perhaps a change to a 6.5 or 6.8 cartridge would address some of the performance issues. On the other hand I don't see the US dropping the NATO round anytime soon.
