Default Woman shot by Huntsville cops after shooting home invader

A reminder that the danger isn't over when the cops arrive.

A man and a woman were shot Sunday evening when multiple rounds of gunfire - including from police - rang out in a south Huntsville neighborhood.

The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. at a home in the 2500 block of Bonnie Oaks Drive. Lt. Darryl Lawson, a spokesman for the Huntsville Police Department, said that the couple was estranged and that the woman had been living at the home with her mother.

The man, whose name is being withheld by police, broke into the rear of the house armed with a gun, Lawson said. At that time, the woman told her mother to run away and call police.

While the homeowner ran to a neighbor's house, calling 911 and tripping the house's burglar alarm, her daughter armed herself with a shotgun.

When the man did not stop coming toward her or drop his own weapon, she shot him, Lawson said.

Police officers arriving at that moment heard gunshots and saw the woman in the garage, holding the shotgun. They demanded she drop the weapon, and when she turned toward them with the gun in her hand, at least one officer opened fire.

Several things here that caused her to be mistakenly shot.

    1. When 911 was called they needed to know that a female armed with a firearm is still in the home.

    2. When the police give on order or arrive on the seen drop your weapon and put your hands where they can be seen freely. Assuming that the threat is no longer a threat.

I hope she is makes it through this and fully recovers.

I am pretty sure we won’t see street demonstrations and endless news coverage of THIS police shooting.

That's what cops do. Shoot innocent people.

No honor, no bravery, no sacrifice, just make sure you get home at the end of the shift. Shoot first and ask questions later.

The danger isn't over when the cops arrive? LOL, yeah.

Probably something similar to the poor guy in walmart. They sneak up, yell commands and then shoot for flinching. Who'd have thought that the flinch game would turn deadly.

Imagine if you pulled your gun in a public place to stop a crime and police arrives. How can they tell YOU are not the perp.

Not sure what the woman was able to hear, especially after the ringing in her ears from the blast of the shotgun.

I could understand their confusion. Most robbery suspects are women with shotguns.

She had it coming for not using an AR for HD.
