Default Asked the Alleg County for a Handbook

I took my wife down to the Allegheny County Sherriff's office to pick up her LTCF. I went to walk in with her to pick up the LTCF and they told me I had no business and had to leave the office. Their rules, okay. So I waited my turn and asked them for a handbook/rules about where you are allowed to carry, or not allowed to carry. They scowed at me and asked why I would need that? I said "so I know the rules and don't break they the law". Their reply was if you don't know the rules then you shouldn't be carrying. Ahh, a catch 22.

I find it completely ridiculus that there isn't anything provided by the state to define your responsibilities. Thank God for sites like this where you can find information on LTCF in Pa.

I asked the same question when I had first gotten my lctf. I was told to go to the library.

Trust me, from what I've read from other forum members, most of the "literature" on carry consists of more opinion than law.

Aside from that, you could consider contacting the sheriff to report the unprofessional "attitude" you received.

It's better for you that they don't have anything, as it would surely be full of incorrect information.

Edit: oops, looks like emptymag beat me to the punch! Gotta get quicker on the keys.

    Appropriate response: Welcome to Pennsylvania?

Really, you could write to your State Representative and ask for a Pennsylvania Gun Laws book. Or, you could go to the library, or go on-line (like here).

It's called Individual Responsibility. Just like many other aspects of life (purchasing a car, getting work done on your house, etc.), it's our job to know what we're doing, not the state's job to tell us. Such a concept has its good points and bad points.

True, a convenient handbook would be nice, and might even be the smart thing to do, but neither our State Legislators, State Police, County Commissioners nor County Sheriffs have felt the requirement so to do.

Back in 2004 there was handout that was not horrendous. My copy was put out by Todd Eachus. It was titled Laws relating to firearms.

Did anyone else get a copy of it?

I picked up a copy of the UFA at the Bucks County Sheriffs' office when I renewed my LTCF. It was stamped "Compliments of State Senator Charles McIlhinney".

Contact your senators' office and ask for one.
