    Default Illegal Carry?

Open for some ideas and thoughts on the subject. How do you keep guns out of the criminals hands and stop them from carring them? Any laws dealing with this? And can it be stopped? (without affecting legal gun owners)

England banned private ownership of guns and criminals still get them. If an outright ban fails to do the job then nothing will. The problem isn't keeping criminals from breaking the law, its getting them locked up and keeping them there when they do.

+ 1, you hit the nail on the head. There shouldn't be an opportunity to be a third time offendor. Second chance should be allowed and once you screw up, that's it...

The key is not keeping guns out of criminals hands, but making doing a crime so dangerous to them that it dissuades them from being a criminal.
If a chosen profession is an almost guarantee of death then the profession goes away. Of course this won't dissuade all criminals but it will go along way.
Remember most criminals are cowards and seek out the softest targets they can find.

Archie Bunker said it best: "All the airlines have to do to end skyjackings is arm the passengers"

Same logic applies to crime in general; All you have to do to stop gun crime is arm your potential victims. Ever notice that states which have the most lax firearms laws also have the least amount of shooting deaths? There's a reason I want to flee to West Virginia...
Just because 'perfect' is impossible does not mean we should settle for 'broken'.

Reduce the number of criminals by reducing the number of laws, thereby reducing the number of armed criminals.
Any mission, any conditions, any foe at any range.
Twice the mayhem, triple the force.
Ten times the action, total hardcore.

The only way to stop illegal carrying is to put xray scanners everywhere.

Guns are too prolific, easy to make, and easy to transport to stop people from obtaining them. In reality there is nothing that you can do to keep them out of criminal's hands.

Keeping criminals in prison for the entire length of their sentence would keep them away from guns for a while.

    .
I read this sentence several times. Might just be the way I am reading it, but there has to be a better way to say that. Unless, you meant to say that guns are too prolific. OUCH!
Just my take on THAT sentence. Nothing personal, not trying to start a fight.
I think most would agree, that the MORE guns are present the LESS crime is present. Works in Kennesaw, Georgia, and it worked in the old West too. Most folks think the old West was a lawless place. Not true, it was a very polite place due to the fact that there were few laws, lots of armed citizens, and a sense of personal responsibility for what happens around each person , IE: What they allow to happen around them. Not too many people get robbed if the potential robber knows he is going to get shot for his efforts.

Make it not worth while for the criminal to commit crimes,
When you have a job, if the job becomes unsafe, unprofitable, or just to much of a hassle you leave and get another job.
Crime to a criminal is a job,
Stop the revolving door courts, institute the work to eat rule in prison(no TV, no work out room, just hard labor).
Criminal can not file law suits from prison,
    No collage education for prisoners.
Get caught with a gun while committing a crime automatic double sentence.
Criminals will then look for a new job.

Laws dont stop acts that the people deem inappropriate - they only provide penalties for those caught committing such acts. If someone has no respect for the law and it's consequences, it is effectively powerless. ....so, nothing can be done to stop illegal carry or other unlawful acts.
