Pa Gun permit and PA voter ID Law
Why is a gun permit NOT listed as acceptable form of ID to vote?
Seems to me that it is just as adequate as a college ID or any of the others listed as acceptable.
The following is from the votespa.com site
Photo ID Required for November 2012 Election
Voters will be required to show an acceptable photo ID on Election Day. All photo IDs must contain an expiration date that is current, unless noted otherwise. Voter's names on their photo IDs do not need to exactly match their voter registration, but the names must substantially conform. Acceptable IDs include:
Photo IDs issued by the U.S. Federal Government or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (including the Department of State Voter ID Card)
PA Driver’s License or Non-driver’s License photo ID (IDs are valid for voting purposes 12 months past expiration date)
Valid U.S. passport
U.S. military ID- active duty and retired military (a military or veteran’s ID must designate an expiration date or designate that the expiration date is indefinite). Military dependents’ ID must contain an expiration date
Employee photo ID issued by Federal, PA, PA County or PA Municipal government
Photo ID from an accredited PA public or private institution of higher learning, including colleges, universities, seminaries, community colleges and other two-year colleges
Photo ID issued by a PA care facility, including long-term care facilities, assisted living residences or personal care homes
If you do not have one of these IDs, and require one for voting purposes, you may be entitled to get one FREE OF CHARGE at a PennDOT Driver License Center. To find the Driver License Center nearest you, and learn what supporting documentation you will need to get a photo ID visit PennDOT's Voter ID Website or call the Department of State's Voter ID Hotline at 1-877-VotesPA (868-3772).With great power comes great responsibility....

Re: Pa Gun permit and PA voter ID Law
Interesting that an allowed ID states "military" as long as there is an expiration date or listed as "indefinite."
My father tried using his retired ID for the primary and they said no. Simply because there was no expiration date... it says indefinite.

Seems to me that it is valid per this line:
Photo IDs issued by the U.S. Federal Government or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (including the Department of State Voter ID Card)

Re: Pa Gun permit and PA voter ID Law
LTCFs are NOT acceptable.
see: http://forum.pafoa.org/pennsylvania-...ter-id-pa.html
An LTCF is not issued by the Commonwealth but instead by a county (city in Phila) official.
An attempt to add LTCF to the list was attempted during the floor debate but was rejected. It was acceptable under the old law but was removed/omitted by Act 2012-18.IANAL

Re: Pa Gun permit and PA voter ID Law
I think that's a legal issue, being the LTCF is recognized as a STATE License, issued by the Sheriff Acting as an AGENT of the state. If it were a county license we'd have to apply in each county for one and it wouldn't specifically be titled "Pennsylvania License To Carry Firearms" true the issuing authority is the county or city of the first class, but again they are acting on BEHALF of the Commonwealth as Delegated by the Congress of the Commonwealth.

A photo is not required on a LTCF. Some have them many don't.
Can't list it as a photo ID if there's no photo.

A photo has been a required part of all LTCFs issued since mid-2011, but you're right that there are some still in circulation that don't have one. That will be true for another approximately 3.5 years.
Regardless, the legislature expressly declined to include an LTCF as acceptable ID, so it wouldn't be even if they all had photos on them.Last edited by twency; September 14th, 2012 at 07:22 PM.
