Pondering….nightstand firearm
When I am out and about I CC either a P238 or a PPS depending on how I am dressed.
But at home I keep a Sig 9mm in my nightstand as a standard precaution against unwanted guests in the evening hours.
Everyday when I leave the house I lock it up and each evening before bed I take it out…..sometimes, I feel a little silly about the routine of it all.
Am I the only one or are you doing this too?

Re: Pondering….nightstand firearm
I always think it's funny that some people have a dedicated "nightstand" pistol. I carry all of my pistols at different times and none of them just lay around for too long.
For me the nightstand gun is whatever I carry that day. Sometimes it might be the same one for a few weeks, then it changes when I choose to carry something else.

Re: Pondering….nightstand firearm
Actually think it makes sense to have a dedicated nightstand pistol. I do. It's something different than the compromise I must live with to carry all day long. So, while I compromise when I'm out and about, at home, I go with something that punches bigger holes.
And no matter what, the nightstand gun needs to have less safeties not more. So, a Glock or revolver are a good choice in my book. No need to be tired and try to remember to disengage a safety at the same time. I just want to point and shoot.I forgot how much I missed the slang from the 70's and 80's: "Bite me, dig?"

I don't see the big deal. You have a different gun for HD. Most of us do. You secure it when you are not home. Nothing silly about that.

...okay.
There's nothing wrong with how you're doing it, op. Personally, I encourage people to keep higher capacity firearms for dedicated night stand guns. Reason being, if you wake up in the middle of the night to investigate a noise, odds are the only ammunition you will have available is the ammo that's in the gun. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

The "night stand" gun is a legitimate option. Unlike the carry gun, which should be small so that you'll actually carry it, it should be a full size pistol. My choice is a g22.

Re: Pondering….nightstand firearm
I can not carry at work so my carry gun sits next to the bed in its holster. When ot at work it gets picked up holster and all and laced onto my belt. It is never remved from the holster unless it is to be used or cleaned. Then promptly replaced in the holster.
troll Free. It's all in your mind.

Re: Pondering….nightstand firearm
My every day carry is my nightstand gun. If the worse happens and I should ever need it upon waking in the middle of the night, I want to know the gun inside and out and not have to take into account even the slightest variations in guns. I want it to be the gun that I regularly practice with and know as much about as I possibly can.
Just my personal preference.
