Starting Amateur Radio
Hopefully taking the Technicians Class License test later on today. Any hints on the test?
What should I bring?

Re: Starting Amateur Radio
Just make sure you review the material in the study guide, and you should be OK. Take your time with the exam. Skip over the questions you are unsure of, and come back to them. Sometimes, another question will give you a hint or bit of info to help you with the question you are stuck with. Welcome to the hobby. I've been a ham for 41 years. PM me anytime.

And then take the general whether you think you're ready or not; you might just surprise yourself!
All-in-all, it's quite a bit easier without having to learn morse now; but don't be afraid of the code...now that you can learn it just for the fun of it!

Re: Starting Amateur Radio
I found this study guide and have been reading it fervently for the past day or so, mixed with checking updates with Mtn. Jack.
Is it any good? It was free, and I don't know what to think about it. The stuff on electronics I remember from physics in college is checking out, but the ham specific stuff I'm not real sure on.

50% of the technicians license is procedures and rule following. ID every 10 minutes, what frequencies you can be on, no music, how long is a license good for, etc. Ohms law is simple and I agree with the others, take the general anyway, while you are there.

Re: Starting Amateur Radio
Good luck on the test! The technician test is mostly rules and regs, with a little bit of theory. If you have a 4-function calculator and a pencil and scrap paper, you should be just fine.
Take the advice of advancing your license class sooner rather than later.

My son, my husband, my brother and one of my sons friends all have their license. For my son and his friend the book was THE big help. My son got only one wrong, although they aren't supposed to tell you how many LOL.
