Alaskan Coast Guard pics

These pics are from my buddy DJ who just started a 3 yr. Coast Guard tour in Alaska. It's a big change from Cape May NJ. He loves it as does his little boy, but the wife is not to keen about it. He's on a "buoy tender". They repair buoys, lights, etc. and also chart the waters for navigation. When these pics were taken, it was 35* out and the water temp was 38*.

Nice pics especially of the Polar Bears..Definitely a big change from Cape May..I've been on that base several times and I had a good time hanging out with the Coasties. Even got one of those Float Coats as seen in the picture.

Definitely very cool! I really didn't have anyone to talk to about the various military branches / Coast Guard before I picked the Navy so I based my choice on the school that they offered. If I could do it over, I would have gone to the Coast Guard Academy. I have lots of great coastie jokes but that's from hanging with friends who were in the CG when I was stationed in Groton, CT.
